Senatoriables Ignore Debt, Education Issues – YAD

10 05 2007

The group Youth Against Debt [YAD] slammed senatorial candidates for snubbing its electoral study on their position on debt, budget and education.

Of the 36 candidates for senatorial positions, only senatorial candidates Loren Legarda and Koko Pimentel responded to their questionaire, the group said.

Paula Bianca Lapuz, Student Council Alliance of the Philippines [SCAP] National Secretary General and YAD spokesperson, scored other candidates for failing to address in their campaign platforms the issues of debt, education and national budget.

“This just show how much senatorial candidates can go without even touching issues as fundamental as whether to prioritize education more than debt payments,” she said.

The youth group especially lauded Pimentel for taking a sharp line for the repeal of Presidential Decree 1177, which provides automatic appropriation for debt servicing.
