SCAP NCR Regional Assembly

21 07 2007

Student Leaders once more converged today, in Rizal Technological University Mandaluyong in their pursuit of pushing for a genuine legislative agenda for this year.

Some 100 Student Council officers gathered today, July 21, 2007, in Student Council Alliance of the Philippine’s National Captial Region Student Leader’s Assembly with the theme of “Challenge to the Youth: Contributing the Student Rights and Welfare Advocacy to Good Governance” sponsored by the Central Student Council of RTU Mandaluyong.

Re-elected Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and AKBAYAN former representative and Chairperson Emeritus Ms. Loretta Ann Rosales both shared their views on SCAP NCR’s given theme, and encouraged all the student leaders to assert their rights and always bear in mind the importance of principled and dignified leadership.

Mr. Reynaldo Flores, of Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Law, discussed the 1987 Constitution’s Bill of Rights and its relevance to the Student Sector, while, AKBAYAN Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Percival Cedaña related of AKBAYAN’s Students’ Rights and Welfare Bill of 2007, which the party aims to file in the opening of the 14th Congress.

The event was generally a success. The Alliance is now looking forward towards a continuous and sustained campaign of the STRAW Bill 2007 in all its chapters not only within NCR but also through out the country . ###
