RESOLUTION URGING THE STUDENT COUNCIL ALLIANCE OF THE PHILIPPINES (SCAP) TO ENDORSE ANA THERESIA “RISA” HONTIVEROS-BARAQUEL AS SENATORIAL CANDIDATE ON THE MAY 10, 2010 NATIONAL ELECTIONS

Whereas, The Student Council Alliance of the Philippines, as a progressive student councils and student political parties formation, promotes student welfare and continuously fights for students’ rights inside academic institutions;

Whereas, SCAP, as an Alliance that upholds alternative campus politics, believes in the relevance of policy advocacy and the power of legislation as an integral part of concrete and realistic component to reform educational system;

Whereas, SCAP, with other alternative progressive youth organizations, seeks for a law that will firmly defend and reaffirm the rights and welfare of the students;

Whereas, Hon. Risa Hontiveros, an exemplary legislator, is the main author of the Student’s Rights and Welfare Bill also known as the Magna Carta of Students;

Whereas, Hon. Hontiveros is a genuinely pro-youth, pro-student lawmaker, evident in the time when she took the challenge of filing and fighting for the Magna Carta of Students Bill, and as proven significantly in all technical working group (TWG) hearings and committee deliberations to the said bill.

Whereas, SCAP Luzon Regional Assembly, recognizing the need of progressive and transformative leaders of the country, decided unanimously to endorse and support Risa Hontiveros as Senatorial candidate in the 2010 National Elections;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, SCAP as a united Alliance, shall endorse and support the Senatorial candidacy of Hon. Risa Hontiveros and take necessary measures to ensure a seat for the aforementioned candidate.

AKBAYAN in 2010: Reclaiming Hope through Governance that Works

Whereas, The Student Council Alliance of the Philippines, as a progressive student councils and student political parties formation, promotes student welfare and continuously fights for students’ rights inside academic institutions;

Whereas, SCAP, as an Alliance that upholds alternative campus politics, believes in the relevance of policy advocacy and the power of legislation as an integral part of concrete and realistic component to reform educational system;
Whereas, SCAP, with other alternative progressive youth organizations, seeks for a law that will firmly defend and reaffirm the rights and welfare of the students;

Whereas, Akbayan Party-list is one of the pioneering and most established party list groups since the inception of the party-list system in 1998, with outstanding track record and essentially pro-people platform;

Whereas, Akbayan Party-list, in upholding the real essence of the party-list system, has proven its loyalty and remained sincere to the causes of the marginalized sectors of the society particularly to the youth and students;

Whereas, Akbayan Party-list is the only party-list group in the House of Representatives who pushes for genuine and realistic education reforms manifested in its continuous effort for the passage of the Magna Carta of the Students Bill;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, SCAP as a unified Alliance, shall endorse and support the candidacy of Akabayan Party-list and take necessary measures to ensure a seat for the aforementioned candidate.
